About BURN X
A Decade On The Front Lines Of The Battle To Save Detroit
BURN X is the long-awaited sequel to the award-winning documentary BURN, returning to the firefighters of the Detroit Fire Department a full decade after the original film first captured the world's attention. Directed by Tom Putnam and Brenna Sanchez, the film ventures deeper into the lives of Engine Company 50, introducing untold stories and new faces while catching up with the firefighters whose courage defined the original. Filmed across more than ten years, BURN X follows the department through an unrelenting stretch of history - the nation's highest arson rate, chronic underfunding, municipal bankruptcy, and the added weight of the COVID-19 pandemic - revealing what perseverance truly means when a city's protectors are pushed past their limits.
BURN X answers the questions the first film left open: why is Detroit still burning, what happens when a firefighter retires, how do you fight fires with diminishing resources, and what remains when catastrophic injury changes a life forever. It is an intimate, character-driven portrait of resilience, brotherhood, and the quiet dignity of first responders who keep showing up no matter the odds. Released in December 2022, the film reached number one among documentaries on iTunes and is available across digital platforms and on DVD and Blu-ray. For Mind Shift, BURN X continues a years-long commitment to the same crews and the same city - honest, cinematic storytelling that honors those who answer the call.
Mind Shift was contracted to shoot and provide production support for BURN and BURN X.
